Dispossession: the story of the Mapoon + Aurukun missions

Across several decades and under successive governments, politicians have worked hand in hand with mining corporations to undermine Aboriginal land rights. In Queensland, the discovery of the world’s largest bauxite deposits in the 1950s led to a thirty year war on mission residents and some of the worst state-led attacks on Aboriginal communities in the 20th century, including policies of mass expulsions and the razing of whole communities like Mapoon.
