Many activists today first encounter Marxist ideas at university, where certain interpretations of Marxism and post-modern critiques have solidified into a sort of conventional wisdom. One of these is the idea that Marxism is “Eurocentric". By this critics claim Marxism is a "western" theory which unduly prioritises the global north and has little to say about the global south, and strategies for liberation outside the advanced capitalist world. This session will refute the claim made by post-colonial theorists that Marxism is "Eurocentric" and explore what Marxist theory has contributed to understanding the struggle against capitalism in the global south.
