The "end of history", proclaimed at the end of the Cold War by those who hoped for and expected an everlasting era of US dominance, has come to an end. Despite the efforts of US strategists, China, the biggest rival the US has faced in decades, has not been contained. A range of other regional powers, including Russia, are increasingly assertive. This session will explore the new epoch of world imperialism we are entering, the extreme dangers it poses, and the questions thrown up for the left.
